Following on the great success of last year’s talk, John will share his enthusiasm and expertise about bulbs of the region, or in botanical terminology, geophytes.

A geophyte is a plant that has a dormant season where the top growth dies back to soil
level. They are typical of a Mediterranean climate as found on Crete. It is a term most often used for plants that have storage organs including bulbs, corms and tubers.

John will introduce a range of plants worth trying in our gardens – including some native species of Crete.

COST: An entry donation of €8 for MGS members and €10 for non-members towards venue and speaker expenses.

FOOD: The lecture will be followed by an optional Traditional Cretan buffet meal in the lovely ambience of this unique setting. Approximate cost 12 euros per person to include half a litre of wine between two.
A range of vegetarian choices will be available.
